DESCRIPTION:Before the feast of the Dormition there is a two week fasting period from Sundown on July 31st until Sundown on August 14th. \nFasting Rules and guidelines for the dormition fast are as follows: \nThanks to Fr. Michael Winn for these guidelines. \nDefinitions\nAbstinence means that we do not eat a certain type of food or any other foods that have that as an ingredient. \nFasting means that we eat less food. A general rule is that for a day of fast\, the amount of food of the main meal is less than the other two meals combined. \nThose exempt from fasting and abstinence are: \n\nChildren under the age of 14\nAdults over the age of 60\nthose who are gravely ill\npregnant women\npost-partum mothers\nbreast-feeding mothers\ntravellers (if travel time exceeds 8 hours)\nthose engaged in heavy labour\nthose who eat from the table of others\nthe poor who live from charity\n\nDormition Fast\nObligation to Fast during this period. \nWednesdays and Fridays\nAbstention from meat and foods that contain these ingredients \nClick on the link below to learn more: \nhttps://icshrine.org/official-fasting-abstinence-rules-prescribed-ukrainian-greco-catholic-church/
